The University Senate is an essential component of University shared governance. It
is composed of Senators elected by each college, who represent the faculty of their
college. Senators keep in touch with their constituent faculty so they can truly represent
them at Senate meetings and keep them informed following Senate meetings. Senate members are called on to:
Consider and make recommendations regarding all matters of general university interest,
including matters referred to it by the president or Board of Trustees
Review all new policies and changes to existing policies
Submit recommendations to the president on any matter affecting the interests of the

During the academic year, the University Senate holds monthly meetings and shares
minutes online. Committees address issues related to specific topics. For additional
